Homestay
design
The intent of this studio was to design a homestayby studing patterns and layers built up in a village on hill over time which then was applied to design.
For start we studied an exsisting village at mahaballeshwar. This village was built on contour with various patterns and layers over time. These patterns were studied in detail with respect to structures and every house had internal and external features with logic.
This house was build with different patterns like there were difeerent levels of plinth that gave different experience at different regions.
The house had a small place where people use to sit and meet each other where they would spend time together which they called "padvi" . The house had a backyard that actuctually faces the road and just in front of the backyard was thier farming space gaurded by poles and covered with cloth. Patterns that were studied were different for different houses and these codex where used in our designs.
At the start I layed few blocks in random position just to configure which space and how can that space be currated as a community space through which paths would engulf the units and make a system or channel that flows through contour.
with many such iterations i position them and started with designing units where my main purpose was to have an internal common space between rooms that allows the travellers to communicated and inhabit the spaces. These spaces where semi varandas that partially covers the units. there were different levels of plinths not just to give an unconcious state of mind a reminder that the unit is on a hill but also.becoms a sitting space.
The units further develops as with iterations and in certain units the contour is extended by cut and fill to give it much space and to breathe.
